For Parents and Campers: An Unforgettable Summer Experience!

Room 17 Math is excited to partner with camps to bring innovative and engaging math programming to campers. Our Math Camp Programs are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing camp offerings, providing daily opportunities for students to explore the wonders of math through hands-on activities and real-world applications.

Walnut Beach Week

1 – Collaborations with Local Businesses: (Walking Field trips)

  • We partner with local businesses – an art gallery, seafood restaurant, ice cream shop, coffee house, and a water sport rental- to showcase how math is integral to their operations.
  • Students explore budgeting, sustainability, and financial literacy through real world examples

2- Sidewalk Math Challenge:

  • Throughout the community, volunteers write open-ended math problems on sidewalks.
  • Participants – our “roomies” – discuss solutions in front of the local businesses.
  • This activity fosters critical thinking and problem solving.

3- Outdoor Math Games

  • Room 17’s unique curriculum that engages roomies in games outside with lots of movement and uses frisbees, balls, and hula hoops.
  • Roomies engage in active play while reinforcing mathematical reasoning.
  • By making math fun, we combat math phobia and build confidence

4- Fluency Games at the Firehouse Art Gallery:

  • Inside the gallery, roomies play tabletop games designed specifically for the Walnut Beach community  Room 17 event week.
  • These games all focus on strategy, reasoning, and friendly competition.

How do I register?

Registration for each service can be found on their prospective pages. Click here for WIN Tutoring and here for Afterschool Programs. When you register for WIN Tutoring, this will include the first 4 sessions (once a week for one month). Invoices will then be created and set to recur monthly and sent via email and text for easy one click payment!.

We offer several WIN Tutoring options ranging from $300 a month for in person tutoring with a certified teacher to $180 for virtual tutoring with a highschool or college tutor. A typical session is one hour, once a week. However, at times roomies may prefer two half hour sessions a week. As long as this works for the tutor, it works for us! If there is a need to double up and have 2 sessions a week or a 2 hour session, we offer a Double Up Discount of 20% off for the second service. Details can be found here. (Insert link to Discount Details).

We strive to provide services to everyone! Through the generosity of our donors and grant funding, we are able to provide financial assistance to those in need. Our Financial Assistance Request Form can be found here.

Room 17’s WIN Tutoring aims to not only support our roomies who may be feeling less confident or are struggling in math, but also to sustain and extend learning. Many of our “roomies” come to Room 17 because they LOVE math and want the extra challenge and/or math experiences outside of the classroom.  Room 17 also offers Afterschool Programs, details can be found here. Feel free to share with your child’s PTA/PTO and perhaps Room 17 can provide this service to your school!

We do! We ask that you give us advanced notice (as best as you can), so that we can find the right tutor to meet the specific needs of your child. We have a variety of tutors (certified teachers as well as peer tutors) who specialize in particular courses. We do our best to find the most confident tutor for these specific needs.

Room 17 welcomes volunteers! Highschool students have several options to choose from, if they are working towards earning volunteer credit hours. Community members are always welcome to volunteer as well! Click here for our Volunteer Application which has more details.

For certified teachers or those who are on a path to certification, the first step is to complete this Teacher Application. For highschool and college students interested in tutoring, please complete this application. Once applications are reviewed and references have been checked, you will receive an email, call, or text to set up a meeting with a Room 17 director.

At Room 17 we focus on getting to know each child, their unique needs, strengths and areas to develop. We don’t use prescribed programs, worksheets, or timed tests.Through talking with each child and giving them an opportunity to reflect and share what they know and want to gain more confidence in, our teachers can choose from a variety of researched based activities in order to create learning experiences that connect math to our everyday lives. The team at Room 17 focuses on developing mathematicians that think flexibly, enjoy math and see how it is more than “school math”…it’s everywhere! The team at Room 17 aims to spread the joy of math through engaging experiences and as a result, build confidence and eliminate math phobia!
